Zoobles Spring to Life Nintendo DS Review

So what are Zoobles? Zoobles are a new character toy from Spin Master. They are cute colorful toys that can be closed up into a ball. When the ball is placed in the Happitat home the cute character expands to full size. Zoobles are kind of cross between Neopets and Littlest Pet Shop.

My daughter has been a huge fan of Littlest Pet Shop so I thought this would be a great game for her. Honey popped this game into her DS to check it out as one of my Video Game reviewers.

In the Zoobles videogame, players are immersed in a whimsical world with 60 Zoobles characters to interact with and 18 playable Zoobles to choose from. Young gamers will explore and venture across six magical Zoobles lands; Petagonia, Azoozia, Pinegrove, Chillville, Petalpoint and Jungleopolis. Players will nurture and play with their favorite Zoobles in each world to unlock adorable accessories, new Happitat decorations, and amazing presents from friends!

You start out on your adventure with a unfurnished home that you can find and collect items to furnish as you play the game. In addition to your Happitat (home) you will have your own garden to grow food to cook and eat. However it is up to you to keep your garden growing and healthy if you want to see the fruits of your labor. Throughout the game you will earn Zoints for doing things such as playing with your Zooble.

While you are playing the game you will want to keep track of how your Zooble is doing health wise. There is a little screen in the corner that will let you know the status of your Zoobles cleanliness, happiness, and hunger. It is your job to maintain a good level for your Zooble to remain healthy. There are six worlds that you can complete as you level through the game.

The draw back for my daughter at her current level is the fact that the game does not read to her what is being said. You must be able to read to see what the game is saying and telling you to do. Honey can actually read pretty well and can get through a lot of the reading but does need help. Her favorite part of the game is collecting the Zoints and unlocking prizes. One thing I’ve learned about my daughter over the past week is she is competitive and needs a goal to meet to make a game interesting. Definitely gets that from her mother.

Overall the game is cute and the graphics are decent. Honey has put her Nintendo DS away for the Kinect these days but this will be a game she will pick up when we go on vacation or she is in the car for any length of time.

Shibley Smiles Review Opinions:

Price: The price of Zoobles at Amazon.com at the time of this review is $29.99. We find this price to be about average but think it would be better priced at $20-$25.

Age Recommendation: Our age recommendation for this game is 7-12. Though younger kids will enjoy it with some help from adults in reading the game instructions that pop up on the screen.
